The only requirement is to wear form-fitting clothing that permits a wide range of movement. For girls and women, that usually means either leotard and tights or a close-fitting shirt and leggings. Boys and men can wear a close-fitting shirt or singlet with shorts or leggings. You’ll also need jazz shoes or jazz sneakers.
Yes, although dance classes aimed at young kids often focus on general coordination rather than specific dance techniques. Many of our students begin dance classes at the age of four or five.
No, the only thing you need is a desire to learn! While we do get some students who already have a foundation in ballet or another form of dance, you can come into jazz as a complete beginner.
No, there is no special equipment required. You should wear comfortable, breathable athletic clothing. Many students come to class in t-shirt and sweatpants; others prefer leggings or shorts. You’ll need good sneakers as well. We prefer sneakers with a white sole since black soles can leave marks on the floor. You may also want to bring a water bottle and a towel.
Yes, although we usually teach general movement to children under the age of 4 or 5. In our kids’ classes, children will learn at an age-appropriate level and work their way up.
Yes, there are many styles that fall under the umbrella of hip-hop dancing, including Break Dancing, Popping & Locking, Funk, Boogaloo, and Stepping. Our general hip-hop classes teach fundamental dance moves and give students a sample of other dance styles they may want to explore.
